Our first housewarming party just ended (yes, first- we're having three)!

Mummy decided to make curry laksa for our first housewarming. It was yummy, of course! And there's more for lunch tomorrow!

Meanwhile, the young adults took up the teeny tiny kitchen- sitting on the floor- 12 Apostles style. Hahaha.

Fridays are my off days. And I love my off days. I get to roll out of bed at 11am, take my time getting washed up and then be ready just in time for brunch. I love my Fridays.

But today (which is a Friday), Lye Jee Leng decided to wake me up at 9am. She blames Shaun Kenneth Simon but it was HER name that popped up on my phone. Anyway, since I was already up, I felt like having pancakes (really, I felt like having roti tampal first but obviously that wasn't an option).

Anyone who knows me well enough knows I can't cook. Or would rather not cook. I just eat. My sister bakes cookies, I eat the cookies. My sister bakes a cake, I eat the cake. My sister bakes cupcakes, I eat the cupcakes. It's never the other way around. So.. this is a huge accomplishment for me! :D

I googled Pancake Recipes and went from there. The batter turned out more solid than it should be though, so I added more milk (instead of 1 1/4 cups of milk like the recipe said, I went for 1 1/2 cups).

I added chocolate chips in after that, which is what the black specks in my batter are. But yay, successful batter!

These look more like normal pancakes. Again, those black specks are chocolate chips not burnt pancakes.

Successful pancakes drizzled with maple syrup! And no, I couldn't finish them all. I even had leftover batter. Maybe tomorrow we'll have some pancakes for breakfast! :)

Accomplishment of the day. I'm on my way to becoming a more acceptable housewife, heh.

Next on the to-do list today:

Sweep the floors, clean the bathroom and get on with my interview self-assessment assignment. Oh, and work (sushi for dinner!).

What would you wish for if you were granted three wishes?

I know what I would wish for, at this point of time.

1. That decisions would just be made already- that a future would just pan out in front of me.

2. That everything I should know to pass this semester would miraculously be in my head without needing to study so hard.

3. Money. Materialistic and money-minded as it is, I would like some extra cash. Because my lack of money is what stops me from doing what I want (sometimes even need).

And that, is what I would use those three precious wishes for, at this point of my life. Perhaps it's my monthly talking but I am feeling slightly unsatisfied with life. :(

My daddy was (is) an amazing man. There is not a day that goes by that I don't miss him. Today is my daddy's birthday. Since he passed away, we've always had this little thing where we buy cake on his birthday, light the candles and eat cake on his behalf. This year marks the 5th time we're doing this. And my sister used her first paycheck to get an ice-cream cake (above) ! :)

I wish he was still here with us. With all the decisions that have to be made this year (me and my career, mummy and the big move, Peter and his future), I only wish he was here to give me his two cents on things. But I know he's still guiding me- in whatever way he's able to.

I love you daddy.

So.. today marks a whole week of us being in our very own place! I have to say, it's been pretty sweet so far. The quiet, the decrease of tension and nagging. We also got a brand new car! Toyota RAV4, 2011. Nothing is holding us back from going places now and that's pretty awesome.

First week of classes have been a breeze so far. And I've been sleeping so well. My whole body aches- in a good way. It's definitely good to be back at the gym. ;)

Tonight, I realized that:

1. Tomorrow I start my first day of my last semester in university.

2. In about 18 weeks (4 months), I'll be done with university.

3. By the time this semester ends, I'll be a graduate.

4. By at least August this year, I'll be a working girl- getting regular paychecks.

5. In about 21 weeks, I'll be with Jeremy again (hopefully, fingers crossed).

6. I still don't know what will happen upon coming back from Europe (if that even happens).

7. This semester will be full of decision-making. A lot of it.

8. I'm having a panic attack.

9. I want this semester to pass slowly.

10. Conclusion. Closure. Goodbyes. Gasp.

Thinking of better things: window crayons are the absolute best.

By the way, we've officially moved in! ;)

Worked on our new house again today!

We hung up our shower curtains! RM5 shower curtains from Daiso, Sunway Pyramid; I love! ;)

Our anti-slip penguins that I bought on boxing day for $6! Aren't they so adorable?

My desk! See that little corner on the left? I plan to put a book shelf in there. Just a small one. But I'm still looking for one that's suitable and reasonably priced.

Yay, my bed has a mattress now! All it needs is bed sheets which I'll put on tomorrow. :)

I wish I had more closet space, haha.

I lined my drawers magazine paper. Now I have hot men looking after my underwear. :D

I can't wait to start decorating my room. It's gonna be sweet! Hopefully, we'll move in by the end of the week. :)

2011 wasn't the best year for me and I've noticed that it hasn't been the best year for many people as well. Hopefully 2012 will be a better year- I know I have high hopes for the year and I'm going to work my butt off to fulfill those dreams and plans I have planned for it. :)

2011.

- I ended my first year of university with a huge bang (good grades, new friends, fitter than ever).

- I got my heart broken but got through it, learning to be more independent than I have ever been before.

- I came home and had the most bittersweet summer/holiday ever. Despite being crippled and sick for the whole 3 months, I was always surrounded by friends and loved ones who did not mind the extra hassle of bringing me around and making sure I had a good holiday.

- I turned 21! Even though I was not very mobile at that time, my family threw me a party, making sure I had a fun celebration.

- Decided to take a chance on love again; making the decision to reunite with the boyfriend (definitely a huge leap of faith and courage).

- Learned the true meaning of love, family and friendship.

- Created a bucket list of things to do before I turn 30.

- Made a huge move with my family to a whole new country.

- Went into a long-distance relationship and learning to make it work.

- Started my second year in university.

- Was placed in possibly the most influential practicum site, showing me that preschoolers is what I would very much like to focus on in the future. Had the best mentor ever and learnt so much under her guidance.

- Relearned that friendships don't ever last forever.

- Started a part time job as a waitress in a Japanese restaurant.

- Went for my first ever hockey game with Dana!

- Learned that not everything is as easy done as it is imagined/spoken.

2012.

- To complete at least two things on my bucket list (Euro trip and kick-boxing).
- To be more dedicated in going to the gym.

- To graduate from university with a certificate to be proud of.

- To conquer the long distance relationship, showing the world that we did it and it worked.

- To learn to be more independent and not always rely on mummy for everything.

- To be able to figure my life out by the time I graduate.

So very proud of myself today. My self-control was amazing! Walked three malls and a couple of street malls, and I only bought stuff I needed (definitely didn't do so well last year). Except those moccasins; those are a Christmas present from my sister and man, are they oh-so-comfy! :D

Boxing Day wasn't as good as last year though. The deals aren't that great. We did go to the pet store and I did see a chameleon that was so cute. I swear, I spent at least 20 minutes just standing there staring at it.

It's probably only the length of a grown man's palm from nose to tail. Still a baby and learning to climb. Wanted to take it home so badly but it was like $103 after a 25% discount. Also, I don't think I'm ready for one right now. Heh.

Was out shopping from 8am till 3pm.

It's Christmas!

Gotta admit, it hasn't been the best. For a little while in the day I was reminiscing about Christmases before this one- surrounded not only by family but by friends that I love.

Of course, friends who remembered to wish did make it a whole lot better. :)

Like the Christmas tree? This was taken last night during the party when I was looking at it (after one too many margaritas) and thinking it looked so pretty and glittery (definitely the effects of the one too many margaritas).

Presents from this morning! I'm so pumped to finish the last book and to go on a LOTR marathon. And of course, to go boxing day shopping with all my gift cards. :D

So.. This is my first post from our new place! We have not moved in yet, hopefully we will after Christmas. But today my brother and me decided to spend the day here trying to clean up and stuff. Everything's so exciting. :)

What have I been doing since the holidays started? Sleeping, eating and shopping. Oh, and work too. I get my pay today! Exciting much? Especially after spending so much money on shopping, pfft.

This is only for the sake of an update. My life has been pretty uninteresting lately. Thus, no pictures. Definitely waiting in anticipation for Christmas. After that, boxing day sales and then New Year's! Before I know it, it'll be the 9th of January of 2012 and I'll be back on the bus travelling an hour to university.

But..

I'll be starting kick-boxing classes soon! Gonna be so ripped by the end of the semester. :D

Sometimes, like today, it feels like she knows exactly when to come check up on me and to keep me company. She'll just wander into my room, look up at me for a little while, then jump onto my bed and makes herself comfortable in between my covers and pillows. She'll hang out for a little while and then when she thinks I'm feeling better (which is usually the case), she'll get up and leave the room.

She is such a darling and it was good to have her, even if it was only for a couple of minutes. Coz today, I'm feeling very homesick and lonely. Even when I'm surrounded by my family in a full house.

Another thing I'd like for Christmas? To go home.

It's that time of the year again! Whilst I'm here, all the way in Canada, the girls are back home- joining forces to organize yet another epic year-end camp. And I'm not there to do that with them. Second year away and yet I still miss it. :(

The girls I grew up in camp with- from so many different age groups! It's so nice how we still keep in touch and are still so close. Come to think of it, none of us in this picture are the same age. Which I think is pretty cool.

I've been going to camp since I was 7 (1997) and didn't miss a single year until I had to come here to study. From teeny tiny child to group leader to camp personnel. :)

Moey Su-Zhen; my year-end buddy and favourite person at camp! Why do we look so young here! We're missing out on a 6-day epic week again. :(

Hopefully I'll get to go back and visit again one day. :)

My last day of preschool was today. I got to spend it at the new Telus Spark science center! And it was most definitely very fun. :)

Coloured bottles of water- around each one there was an inspiring quote on it. It was pretty cool because they were on floor to ceiling shelves, four shelves filled with coloured water by the window so that the sun could shine through them.

This was in the 'Being Human' exhibit. And this was probably the most fun part of the whole day!

I went for my first hockey game last night! It was such perfect timing too, it was our last day of classes and we didn't have anything else due. It was the Calgary Flames vs. Carolina Hurricanes game.

So after classes, we went back to Dana's and made signs!

Yes, we do need the attention. ;)

We went to the mall to get something to eat before heading downtown to the Saddledome, where the game was being held. We were sooo pumped!

Of course, because we were so excited, we got there super early- more than an hour before the game started. But we had time to walk around and get popcorn. Everything was so fascinating and Dana just laughed at me the whole time. Hahaha.

We finally saw them come out! They're warming up in this picture. Reds are the Flames (who we were cheering for) and whites are the Hurricanes, our opponents.

By then, the hall was filled with people in red jerseys, supporting Calgary Flames. :)

Yummy ice-cream. They put a hint of cinnamon in the chocolate ice-cream, making it unique.

And hot dogs of a kind that I've never seen before! Instead of cutting a slit on the side of the bread to put the sausage in, they cut a hole on the top, fill it with ketchup and mustard and whatever else you want in it, then stuff the sausage in. New way to eat a hot dog, for sure! But much, much, much neater than the usual.

The TV! We were hoping to get on the TV with our signs, but we were too chicken to hold them up. Also, the fire on the sides of it comes on every time the Flames score. We were close enough that we were able to feel the heat of those flames. We got good seats, that's for sure. :)

Harvey!

Harvey is the Flames' mascot. He's a hound dog. He goes around beating a drum, getting people to shout "Go Flames Go!" and does pretty inappropriate gestures to audiences. So energetic, though and so much fun!

Dana and me. I swear that guy behind me was shouting so much he got spit in my hair.

It was such a good night! We both had a ton of fun and Dana is so awesome for being able to get us free tickets. :D

Oh and yeah, the Flames won 6-7. We were ahead by like 2 or 3 and for some insane reason, the Hurricanes scored in the last 10 seconds. It was ridongkulous.

It was such a good experience, though! Just being in the stadium, hearing the fans cheer, being part of that crowd and learning about hockey!

Part of me might even be a fan now! ;)

So my first day of being a waitress was tiring. I've forgotten how hard it is to stand on my feet and walk around for a few hours straight. But I'm a little bit richer and a tad bit closer to my dream now, so yay! :D

Last week of classes is next week. And then the following week will be finals. Then, Christmas break! Before I know it, I'll be graduating university and looking for a job. Ohno.

Family Wedding Weekend!

So my cousin, Rachael and Shawn got married yesterday (or rather, they got married last week in Mexico; but it was the blessing+reception yesterday).

Friday night, we had a pre-wedding dinner. So all the family on both sides plus a few close family friends got together and had a big big dinner with roti canai, curry and Uncle Bill's balls (they were so yummy okay)!

Of course, no surprise here, my mum was one of the cooks for the event.

Many, many Asian games played that night. I just might have to elope to avoid all this. The first one had to be played by both the parents of the newlyweds as well as the bride and groom. Each couple got a pair of eggs (one labeled 'left' and the other labeled 'right') and the ladies had to push each one from their husband's pant legs all the way to their crotch. Shawn's parents won this round. There were a lot of games like these through the whole 10-course dinner.

It's been a year and three months since I started Margarita Magic and looking back, it's been such an amazing journey. A journey that I've been so fortunate to share with all you readers from all over the world (the most views I have are from Malaysia- hell yeah!, the States and Canada).

We went to our new place today to paint our rooms! And we had new furniture delivered as well. But the highlight of our day: pretty new colours for our rooms.

I like how spontaneous he is. Inviting me to go for dinner/movie/night out an hour before the appointed time. So yes, I know we're a tad bit too old (very much too old!) for trick or treating but we decided that we would- just for the experience! And it's always nicer if you go with someone else and not on your own, which is why I didn't go last year. :D

Because it was such a last minute decision, we wore pajamas and bath robes with our boots. Yes, we were dressed up as people ready for bed. Heh. And Mika is a fire-fighter dog! ;)

I thought it was a painting on the door at first but I was wrong. Still pretty awesome though!

One of my friends shared this quote on Facebook. I'm not sure if it was really quoted by this Mark guy, but he was the one who put it up. Quotes like these kinda piss me off some days. They're so unrealistic, it blows my mind. Yes, the first part about people letting us down and having hearts broken and best friend fights are all true. The part that bugs me? Forgiving freely and loving like you've never been hurt.

Sure its pretty darn easy to just say "I forgive you". But really, how often is that forgiveness sincere? If we don't talk about it, does that really mean its water under the bridge? If you've said mean things about me behind my back, will our friendship ever be the same again? If you've cheated on me, will our relationship ever be the same again? If you've made use of me for something, will my impression of you ever be the same again? My point is, it will always be there. Even though you say you forgive them, it will always be there. And its super rare that relationships ever go back to normal after things like these. Chances are, you'd drift apart and be total strangers or if you're lucky, just acquaintances.

Love like you've never been hurt? Bullshit. You know what's stronger than loving like you've never been hurt? It's loving despite having been hurt. Taking the chance, being a good listener and adapting to the big bulk of crap your girlfriend/boyfriend/partner might have placed before you. It's about moving forward and learning from mistakes as well as building on a relationship that might become stronger than ever because of it. And if it's something super unforgivable that it breaks up the relationship, well, it would be pretty stupid to just forget about it. That hurt will probably make you a much stronger person. And when you're healed from all that hurt, it just gives you a better perspective of the type of person you'll want to be with in the future. Forgetting will just put you back in the same position you were in before.

So as most of you already know, we went for our annual family camping trip last weekend. It was my family's first time camping, so they were freezing. Heh.

We went for our Asian walk on the second day. Basically, it's just a bunch of Asians (Chinese) walking around the campsite. Last year, we had two white guys join us. This year, one white guy was hungover from all the drinking the night before and the other white guy was/is busy preparing to get married.

Hello everyone!

I've been here less than a week but I feel like I've done so much since then! It's been classes, classes and daycare since I got here. But classes have been fun so far! I got to be about half an hour late for my first class of the semester and I'm getting back into the whole super long transit to university. But other than that..

We get to play with wires! We were supposed to make something that best described ourselves. I was jet lagged and feeling super uncreative: hence, my name. But my description is pretty creative, no? Try and link what I said in my description card to what you see in my wired name. ;)

And we get to draw pictures of our family! What I didn't know was we had to do a mini presentation about it after. Spontaneous much?

Like it? This may very well be our new house *fingers crossed*! It's a pretty dark picture, but its a cute little green and white house with four bedrooms. And a pretty lawn/backyard! :)

This made me wish I ate more rambutans when I was back home.

Gosh, I miss home. Not knowing when I'll be back next makes it all even sadder. :(

It was an extremely long, miserable journey. My first flight to Japan was 7 and a half hours. It was a 9 hour wait in Narita airport. Thank goodness for wifi and Harry Potter.

So I had to walk from one end of the airport to the other. By the time I got to my gate, I was limping already. My leg is not completely healed yet, you see, and walking long distances makes it ache. I got hungry about lunch time so I had to go back to this sushi place I saw. You HAVE to eat sushi if you're in Japan, right? Hahaha.

You can't see it properly from this picture, but there were four of them in white making sushi. Quite cool la. One of them was making my sushi. Hee.

My lunch: dragon roll, california roll and spicy tuna roll. The dragon roll was best. ;)

And now I can say I ate sushi in Japan before!

This was my hidey hole throughout the 9 hour wait. A plug point, a quiet spot and a nice place to put my bags. And yes, I brought my lunch back here so I can watch Harry Potter while eating. :D

My next flight was a 10 hour one. The movie selection for that one sucked balls. That's when my laptop came out and I continued watching Harry Potter in HD. And that is the story on how the first 7 Harry Potter movies saved me from extreme boredom (well, actually the last 4 coz I'd already watched the first 3 when I was down with chicken pox). Thank you, boyfriend. You be awesome. ;) I sat next to this Philipinno guy during the flight and he was a tad bit emo-ish. At one point, I think he was crying. Throughout the whole trip, he kept looking at his camera pictures. He told me he has a fiance back in the Philipinnes. I think he wanted to talk more? But I went to sleep. Hahaha.

So I got to Vancouver, got my immigration papers done and hung around for another half hour before boarding my next flight to Calgary. Got on the plane and found out that I was sitting next to the same Philipinno guy. But we both went to sleep throughout the 2 hour flight. So yay, no emo talk. ;D

And that ends the story of my long and treacherous flight. All in all it was around a 30 hour journey.

I miss home. But I wouldn't want to do another 30 hour long journey for a very long time.

On a totally different note, long-distance is going to suck big time. :(

My flight was supposed to be tomorrow night. Guess what? I have the chicken pox. Hence, no flight for me till at least the end of this week. And I'm gonna have to lose a whole week of classes. Yes, I am a nerd. Losing an entire week of classes is killing me inside.

I come home to Malaysia and in two weeks, I manage to break my left foot. Just as I hop on a plane back to Canada, I get the chicken pox. Try having my life, it's amazing.

So I went down to Klang again today to sew up my saree. And Mohan decided to tag along because he wanted to see Carrie as well. And I needed his Tamil to do the bargaining. He ended up doing a pretty good job bargaining too. ;)

I spent half the afternoon not knowing what everyone around me was saying because of all the Tamil. So I hung around and stared at the ceiling and on the floor and when a price was decided, I cheered because it was always lower. Heh. Yes, I'm that useless in Little India.
